Managers Making Career Changes

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Susan West Corporate management positions offer considerable money, benefits and security, but the downside of the corporate lifestyle can drive some managers to head for the nearest exit. Managers leave companies for all kinds of reasons: better opportunities elsewhere, burnout, personality conflicts, incompetence, pay ceilings and new challenges. In fact, experts estimate that 70 percent of American workers at big companies are unhappy with their jobs. Research clearly shows American employees want flexibility in their jobs and more control over their working hours, says Kathleen Christensen, director of a program sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation which examines the work force and working families. Tips for Making the ChangeIf youre ready to make a career change, proceed with caution. Changing to a different company, field or industry can be challenging. But you can make the switch without too much difficulty, if you develop a strategy for creating a smooth transition. The goal is to create an effective career-change plan that takes into consideration finances, research, education, and training. Keep in mind that a successful career change can take several monthsor even longer. A well-thought-out plan developed with the appropriate tools will provide the confidence to take those first steps. Here are some tips from experts to help you make a successful career change that enhances your leadership: Conduct thorough research. Make sure you to evaluate all possibilities before attempting a career jump. Talk with business associates, peruse career and job profiles, and consult with a career management professional. The more information you arm yourself with beforehand, the more successful youll be. Choose the right time. The best time to begin considering a new career is when youre already in another position. Instead of giving up your steady paycheck, you can test a new career possibility by volunteering or offering yourself as a freelancer or consultant. Evaluate your motivation. Just because youre unhappy in your current job isnt a good enough reason to make a total career break. Carefully analyze whether it is your actual career you dislike, or simply your organization or immediate supervisor. Evaluate the pros and cons of your current position and your desired position. Determine whats important. Ask yourself what it is you really want to do with the rest of your life. Take an honest inventory of your likes and dislikes, as well as your skills, values, and personal interests. What is missing now for you? What do you want to accomplish next? You might even consider consulting an executive coach and/or taking a career assessment test. Learn about the industry. To get a feel for the field that interests you, read industry journals, attend conferences, and talk to people in the profession about what they do. Learn whether your target industry has growth potential by researching trade magazines, associations, and Websites. Assess your qualifications. Consider whether you have adequate experience and education to compete as a qualified job candidate in your desired new career field. If not, you might need to postpone your career change while you go back to school or obtain additional training. Boost your marketability. Work with an executive coaching firm, so you will be able to transition to the next position with better management and leadership skills. Also, consider brushing up on the latest technology and techniques pertaining to the new field youve chosen. Enhance your network. Nurture professional contacts and friendships regularly. Professional organizations, job industry trade associations and even informal groups are a good place to start. Update your job search skills. Its essential to brush up on job-hunting skills and techniques before you start your official job search. Make sure you are using your time and resources as effectively as possible. Be patient. Dont expect to begin at the same level of seniority in your new career that you had in your old one. It will take time to move up the ranks, but when you find a new career that you absolutely love, it will have been worth it. Making a career change can be challenging for managers, but it can be done successfully if the right approach is taken and the appropriate planning tools are used. High Risk Personal Loans - Revive Frustrated Loan Hunting Attempts with High Risk Loans

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Amanda_Thompson]Amanda Thompson Bad credit seems like an unfinished business, you cant shake it off, and you cant move on without putting it away. Unfinished business is meant to be finished. Further your bad credit history is decoded as a high risk condition. You can feel its reverberations since you are probing for high risk personal loans. So, are there any lenders offering high risk personal loans? Yes, there are many loan packages for those who are fighting to get high risk personal loans. No good thing comes easily; such is the case with high risk loans. A well sketched out plan is basic to high risk personal loans. For a high risk personal loan the beginning should be with finding out your credit score. It is highly disadvantageous when you submit an application for high risk personal loans and dont know what your credit score is. Enlightenment about your credit score will undoubtedly facilitate your own footing in front of the loan lender. Make sure you are contacting the right credit agency for your credit score. If you are sure about your credit history you would know what kind of high risk personal loan product will suit your standing. A few generalizations about credit score may prove healthy for you to advance with high risk personal loans. The bottom line is very few people can actually escape high risk credit status. This is primarily because perfect credit is usually not achievable like perfection itself. Therefore, if you joining the queue of people applying of high risk personal loans dont be shocked. It is rather easy to get to the status of high risk borrower. You can get high risk credit rating for any reason. Many people are caught unaware when they are marked as high risk borrowers. Frauds and errors in repayment terms are obvious reasons for getting a high risk grade but sometimes one might get adverse credit history for the simple reason of not living at one address for long. Loan lenders have matured their outlook towards high risk borrowers and increasingly offer personal loans. The term credit score may seem intimidating but it is proffered to make loan process easier. Based on the credit score the loan lenders have produced a grading system. The grades range from A to D which is in the decreasing level of credit rating. These credit scores refer to your credit worthiness in relation to high risk personal loan. If your credit score ranges from 560 to 500 then it implies that you are now a high risk borrower. If you fall in these category then high risk personal loans are meant for you. A loan lender would take a good look at the credit score before providing you with high risk personal loans. High risk personal loans would tag along itself higher rate of interest. Bankrupt, arrears, foreclosure, late payments, or any court case - you are termed a high risk borrower if you have any of these terms were ever reported in your credit report. Higher rate of interest on high risk personal loans compensate for the increased risk payment. Some loan lenders specifically provide high risk personal loans. They have great personal loans packages tailor made for your condition. So, in case you cant meet the traditional lending criteria apply for high risk personal loans. Internet is a good place to start your high risk personal loan research. It is encumbered with information about financial services offering personal loans to high risk borrowers. Use the internet to get quotes, and any charges for conveyance and surveying or for any pre payment penalties. Search carefully for a site on the net, for the variety offered can be at times confusing. Every high risk borrower would need different high risk personal loans. Different circumstances require different personal loan programme. A [http://www.chanceforloans.co.uk/secured_personal_loan.html]High risk personal loan can be used for many purposes like education, vacation, home improvement, debt consolidation, wedding and any other personal purpose. High risk personal loans can be either secured or unsecured. Secured personal loans for high risk borrowers would require pledging their property. Unsecured personal loans would mean no property guarantee but higher interest rates. Renovate your status as a high risk borrower by the vehicle of high risk personal loans. Maintain your monthly payments and you will be able to get good credit on your credit report. But all your effort at establishing credit would be a waste if your lender does not report your credit performance to an established credit agency. Ask the lender for their policy and in case they report credit, you can ask for an application. You could be a bankrupt, you could have been the director of the company who got bankrupt, you may have made faults while making repayments, you could have a county court judgment against you - you can come from any background and still get high risk personal loans. Let them call you high risk, you are getting a personal loan. Amanda Thompson holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce from CPIT and has completed her masters in Business Administration from IGNOU. All About Rhinoplasty

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Nakul Jain What is Rhinoplasty? Rhinoplasty is the medical term used for plastic surgery of the nose. This surgery is to change the structure of the nose by adding or removing bone or cartilage. It is also done by grafting tissue from another part of the body or using synthetic material to make alterations in the shape of the nose.Though most cases of rhinoplasty arise due to cosmetic reasons, an injury or abnormal structure of the nose causing breathing problems could also be the reason. A large or malformed nose can easily be corrected with rhinoplasty. Minor changes can only be made depending on the bone structure and anatomy of the nose. How much the minor change would affect the final look largely depends on the surgeons capability and skill, hence the most important decision is that to choose a qualified and experienced surgeon. The tight ness of the skin also plays an important role along with the bone structure as people with thin skin would see more dramatic results than people with thick or harder skin as it would not allow the bone structure to be very prominent. About the surgery The surgery can be of two kinds , external or internal , depending on how much of a change is to be made through the surgery. The external nose is comprised of skin, bone and cartilage. The skin between the nostrils is called collumella. Under Internal rhinoplasty all incisions are made inside the nasal cavity. Under external rhinoplasty incisions are made across the base of the collumella. The external incision makes the nasal structure more visible and becomes easier to operate on the bone and cartilage to reshape the nose, especially if it is a complicated surgery. The remaining skin is then replaced over the new framework. If it is required to add bone, cartilage or skin to the nose it can be taken from the persons body itself or synthetic materials can be used. Simple surgeries can be done under local anesthesia and do not require hospital stay, whereas complicated ones are performed under general anesthesia. After the surgery After the operation splint can be used and the nose and the nose is stuffed with dressing to keep the structure intact. The patients may experience swelling and pain requiring pain relievers and sedatives. Patients also experience headache and swelling near the eyes. There could be discomfort and slight bleeding. They would be instructed to lie down in bed and keep their head elevated for a day. Patients can resume normal life within 3-4 days but should avoid hectic activities for 2-3 weeks. It is important to keep hygiene to avoid infection Avoid touching the nose area specially injuries For more information on Rhinoplasty and cosmetic surgery in India options, please visit http://www.cosmetic-surgery-india.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Nakul_Jain http://EzineArticles.com/?All-About-Rhinoplasty&id=531717 payday loans cash advances bad credit accepted bad credit educational loans credit repair kits fico score range bad-credit

IT Marketing: Get Your Expertise Across

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Joshua Feinberg Two powerful tools to influence your target audience are case studies and your website. These tools show your potential customers that you are their best solution. In this article, you’ll learn how to use case studies and websites to help with your IT marketing. Case Studies A case study is a really fancy testimonial. It usually has the picture of the client with their logo, their full name, address, and other contact information. A case study will have a few short paragraphs where the client talks about the benefits that they’ve received by working with your firm over the years, and a strong endorsement signed by them and your firm’s contact information at the bottom as a call to action. If you’re targeting small medical offices, for example, and you have two to four related case studies, they can be incredibly powerful. Websites A website is an important IT marketing tool for your business. Put the right content into it so it gives the maximum impact to your clients. Don’t waste your time on irrelevant things like advertising the cheapest power supply or motherboard. Focus on your industry specific solutions and solving the niche’s biggest IT problems. Each Web Page Should Address a Niche If you have three niches that you’re targeting for your IT marketing, have a page for each of them. And make sure each page talks about some industry-specific trends and how your IT solutions tackle these problems. You should know your niche’s hot buttons. You should know the typical software packages that are going to move people into believing that you have strong competence in this area. (This is the perfect time to do some selective name dropping if you have specialized knowledge.) Know the specific benefits that you’re delivering for your niche and have those benefits on your Web site. IT Marketing: Emphasize Service on your Website Most of your website activity is going to come from two places. 1. You’ve generated the demand somewhere else and you’re using the Web site as a replacement for an expensive, fancy glossy brochure. 2. competitors poking around on your Web site looking for information. You want prospects to be clear when they hit your Web site that your emphasis is on services and the problems that these service solve for certain kinds of small businesses. The Bottom Line on IT Marketing Utilize case studies and your website to get more impact from your IT marketing activities. Make sure you address your individual niches and the problems each of them encounter. Copyright MMI-MMVI, Computer Consultants Secrets. Marketing Senior Services: Let’s Lose the Platitudes

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Valerie VanBooven Recently I was invited back to Wisconsin to speak to the Wisconsin Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. They wanted to know more about 2 things.how to get more private pay clients, and my thoughts on how we, as senior providers, can do a better job of marketing our businesses to seniors and adult children of aging parents. For this column, Im going to talk about the marketing pieceand this is only the tip of the ice-berg. I want to let all of you in on my marketing strategyone that DOES work, but you have to be able to move away from the norm a bit. Do you know what a platitude is? A platitude is sort of like a given.for instance for all of the phrases below, if you can say Well I would hope so!! then the phrase is a platitude. All of these come directly from advertisements in the Yellow Pages- and are advertising senior services of some kind- independent living, assisted living, nursing home, home care, etc. I did not make this up. Well I would hope so!! List. Luxurious dining. We treat residents like family. Quality Care. The BEST in Senior Living. (as opposed to what?) Senior Living at its Best! (see any similarities here?) Spacious apartments. Courteous, compassionate staff. Park-like setting. Resort-like services and amenities. Elegant dining. Luxurious Retirement Living. Full service retirement living. We care. For You. (???) Care is our business.. Life away from home can be more enjoyable than you ever imagined.(nursing home ad) If you are a consumer who has never worked in the senior services industry and has never place a loved one into any form of care, do these phrases or words really educate you about anything? Every ad is almost identical. They say nothing really. Unfortunately, we also have a large population of adult children of aging parents who have no idea where to turn for services and resources (not their fault), and the Yellow Pages is the first place they look to find help. Ugh. Lets move away from the platitudes.and start educating consumers instead. So, my recommendation is this- if you want to build your database of qualified prospects, and you want to have plenty of business, fill the rooms, fill the beds, etc.then you or your organization needs to become the trusted resource in town. Try this. The next time you run an ad or send out a newsletter, make an offer. Offer a FREE REPORT on the Top 20 Questions You Should Be Asking Before Hiring an In-Home Care Agencyor, Top 20 Questions You Should Be Asking Before Deciding on a Nursing Home (Independent Living Community etc). Make sure you actually WRITE a free report on the top 10, 15, 20 questions people should be asking, and keep it simple, 1-2 pages max. Before you make such an offer, go back to my previous columns where I talked about inside reality vs outside perception. Make sure those match up before you tell people what they should be looking for in a good service. If you are the facility, or organization that chooses to educate your local community on topics related to what good quality care REALLY means, how to pay for long-term care, what legal documents consumers should have (like DPOA etc), then the community will begin to trust your organization. Take a look around at the competition in your area. What are THEY doing to educate the community on a regular basis? How can you differentiate yourself from them? Offer something that they havent even thought of yet..lose the platitudes and become an educator. As consumers we can use all the help we can get. Salary Negotiation Secrets Revealed

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Gerard McLoughlin Before you go into the interview, it is important to know what salary you want, what you need to live on, and what you will be prepared to accept. Spend some time working out your budget. Remember to factor into your calculations the remuneration you’ll need in the future. Decide what types of benefits are important to you.A compensation package might include: flexible work schedule, option to work at home, relocation expenses, pension and insurance plans, company car, holidays, stock options, profit-sharing, training opportunities, etc. By evaluating these beforehand, you can concentrate on bargaining in the negotiation process. It is important to know your market value. You can do this by consulting professional associations, job advertisements, business and trade periodicals, employment agencies, executive search companies, career-related websites, and on-line salary surveys. Since salaries often vary according to location, you should research comparable positions at similar companies in your geographical area. Investigate your prospective employers track record for making offers. To strengthen your negotiating position, try to ascertain how urgently the company needs to fill the post. It also helps if you have another offer to consider. When completing application forms, say that your salary requirements are “negotiable” or “competitive.” Dont state a specific figure on your resume. Don’t be the first to mention salary during the job interview. Let the employer introduce salary first. If the interviewer insists on a specific figure, ask for details of the companys customary salary range for that type of position. Stress that you are confident you will be able to arrive at a mutually agreeable sum. Do not negotiate a salary until you receive a job offer. By making the offer, the company is indicating that they consider you to be a valuable asset, thus putting you in much stronger bargaining position. When asked at this stage to express your salary requirements, be as non-specific as possible. Instead of an exact amount, state a range and indicate that you are willing to negotiate. Use timing to establish your value. Dont be too quick to accept the employers first offer. If the offer is unacceptable, go back to talking about the responsibilities and importance of the job. Stress how keen you are to work for the company and how much you feel you can contribute. Maintain a calm, friendly, and professional demeanour at all times. Anticipate objections and be prepared to overcome them. Assess the companys needs beforehand and justify your salary request by showing them how they will benefit from your skills, knowledge, and experience. Be creative in suggesting salary options. If the company is not in a position to offer a higher salary, concentrate on negotiating parallel benefits such as performance bonuses, company car, profit-sharing, etc. Remember that you are negotiating your relationship with your prospective employer. It should be a collaborative process. Both parties will benefit from a successful outcome. Avoid conflict. Be firm but friendly in asserting your rights. If you are satisfied with the offer you receive, try to resist the urge to accept on the spot. Instead, express your enthusiasm about the prospects of joining the company and ask for a little time to consider the offer. When evaluating the offer, consider all the relevant factors,e.g. salary, benefits, responsibilities, location, environment, and promotional prospects. Once you have accepted the job offer and agreed on the salary and benefits, ask for a letter of confirmation. The fat burning process is a matter of proper dieting and the correct exercise and training techniques. Remember, everyone’s body is different and not all techniques work for everyone. Consistency is the key, so give your body a chance to adjust with time to the changes. It may take a while to see results but the end result is worth it. A good fat burning tip is adjust your current diet by reducing your calories and limit your salt intake to reduce your fat. You must be active to change your bodies metabolism to burn fat instead of storing it. Fat burning exercises will speed up your metabolism. With a reduction in calories, and this type of exercise, you will reduce body fat. Some of these fat burning exercises include walking, jogging, running, elliptical trainer workouts, cycling and swimming. The key thing to remember here is the more muscle groups you use, the more fat you’ll burn. These aerobic fat burning exercises increase your metabolism, which means, you’ll burn calories long after you exercise. Kids Cooking Schools

Friday, April 11th, 2008

By Kevin Stith Since kids form an integral part of any family, they too are being taught culinary skills. Equipping them with such knowledge is beneficial for any family since kids can now cook up their favorite delicacies and moreover for kids it’s pure fun, cooking. This being the case, one can find an increasing number of kids cooking schools that are in all cities. From toddlers to teens, they teach techniques, broaden the plate and give these kids the confidence to experiment with their own dishes. Going to a cooking school does not necessarily mean that your kid is going to be a chef. It could be for a pure and different kind of learning experience. Most of the kids cooking classes can arm your kids with the necessary skills to cook up anything form mini-quiches to baked doughnuts with sprinkles. Another great advantage with kids cooking is that a child is able to learn other things too, apart from cooking. For instance a kid could learn measuring, counting, nutrition, science and even team skills at such a young age. Most of the kids schools sessions run up to at the most fourteen to sixteen weeks. A good kids cooking school would pay individual attention to every student. Kids also should be allowed to hands-on experience. They just love the entire experience since, for them, it is fun while learning. There are some kids cooking schools which teach even specialty food items. There are some kids cooking schools which teach cooking only cucumber rolls or even only sushi. There are numerous restaurants too which offer culinary classes for kids. One gets to work with seasoned pros at these restaurants. Mere observation could lead to great learning at these places, since kids pick up skills faster. One can also find tutors who can come to your home and teach your kids to cook. One can find such instructors through a simple search on the internet. Cooking Schools provides detailed information on Cooking Schools, French Cooking Schools, Italian Cooking Schools, Vegan Cooking Schools and more. Cooking Schools is affiliated with Top Film Schools. Why Do Interviews Die: That Sinking Feeling and How to Prevent it!

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Jeff Altman Interviews die because a mistake occurred. Sometimes, you’ve made a mistake; sometimes they die because someone who screened a resume did. 1. Interviews often occur because someone has reviewed a resume and interprets something that you have written in ways that you didn’t intend. Someone believes that you have a skill that you didn’t list; sometimes, they misread something in your experience. Within 15 minutes, each of you knows that something is wrong but because interview etiquette doesn’t permit it, the conversation languishes on. 2. Sometimes it is your mistake. Sometimes you have overstated an experience or skill in your resume. In job markets like these, it is common for people to include every skill or experience they have been near or around in their resume in the hope that they will get an interview. As I screen resumes, it has become too common for me to find out about people having 4 months of experience with the core skill of the job I am trying to fill. That is rarely adequate for my client in the searches we are attempting to complete, yet, like mission inspectors in Iraq, I have to ask a follow-up question to deduce that the experience is inadequate. 3. The interviewer is off in another thought and you don’t bring them around to pay attention to you. Although an interview may be the most important thing in your day, it may be one of 25 priorities in the interviewers. What you may interpret as a dying interview may be the interviewer thinking about a project responsibility, the next question they’re going to ask, their commute, an argument with a spouse/significant other or child, an upcoming meeting or a million other possibilities. 4. You are boring the interviewer. Too often, answers to questions send the job-seeker off in lengthy answers that are just downright boring and long. It’s not the question; it’s that the person hasn’t organized their thoughts around a subject so the answer is becomes so lengthy, uninteresting and, often, have no relationship with the original question. How Can I Avoid This? There are different strategies depending upon the mistake. I’ll answer by offering ways to both avoid the mistake and to steer the interview along a better route. 1. When you are invited to interview with a firm, ask about the position that they want to interview you for. Try not to interview for jobs for which you are not qualified. They may saw a Director’s position or a programmer’s role. Ask then, if they can tell you more about the role and responsibilities of the position and what they are looking for in the way of a background or experience. If you detect a “red flag” or something that gives you reason to feel like there was mistake made, it is useful to say what your actual experience was in the area that and confirm that it is adequate. For example, a company looking for a Notes developer invites a Notes administrator with some development experience for a senior developer’s role. The administrator states that they are an administrator with two years of development experience during which time 40% of their work was development. Some of you may say that this will “kill the interview” and you’ll be right. Yet in this market, the interview would be a waste of time. 2. Don’t exaggerate your knowledge or experience on your resume. Be accurate when you present your experience or knowledge. If you worked with something for two months three years ago, indicate it on your resume. Don’t worry, you are not going to lose an opportunity to get hired because you were honest. You’re going to save yourself the agony of interviewing for a job that you wouldn’t get hired for anyway. 3. If you sense an interviewer is off in thought, there is a simple way to bring them back to you–shift your position by crossing your leg or adjusting in the chair or clear your throat and apologize for doing so. These two simple actions will bring their consciousness back to you. 4. Pay attention. Paying attention is not something you would think should be a necessary reminder. Too often, jobseekers are off in their thoughts and not paying attention. Not paying attention to what the company is looking for in the way of a solution to the job; thinking that they know better than the employer what they should be asking and then going off and answering that question instead of the one asked. Then the answer goes on forever! Try to answer the question in 30-45 seconds if possible. Some questions require more time than that; most don’t. By keeping your answers to that length, you will make the interview interactive. It is unlikely that you will bore your audience. You will create a back and forth with the interviewer that will keep them engaged in the discussion with you. You can probably even anticipate what their follow-up question can be and practice your answer in advance of the interview. You’ll probably notice that the first two suggestions occur before an interview, the next two occur during the interview. I don’t believe that smiling or asking a lot of questions are anything more than damage control. By following the points here, you will avoid going on interviews that you can’t win and do a better job in the ones you get.
